Complex technology for most ambitious customers

17. 09. 2009

For more than 130 years, ships have been built in the docks of Lürssen for national and international customers. Naval vessels and big yachts are launched from the different locations, with a length of 60 to more than 150 m. The power can reach up to 30.000 kW depending on size and speed. Maximum speed tops out at over 50 knots. To reach these high demands on a constructional level, it requires best know-how cutting the complex components.

The aim was to increase production significantly through new machines. After several talks with the dock and an extensive project planning in advance, the way was paved for two machines of MicroStep. One of them is the CNC-plasma cutting machine PLS – PrI with 28500 x 3500 mm. On its cutting table, sheets are processed with weld preparation by a MicroStep rotator.

A HiFocus 360i plasma source with automatic gas console takes care of the power necessary. Additionally, the system includes a fully automatic ink jet marker.

Right across, you can find an OxyCut PAI with a working surface of 12000 x 3000 mm, a plasma support with a plasma source HiFocus 160i including automatic gas console, an oxyfuel cutter and an ink jet marker. Nesting at Lürssen is carried out by ALMA. This software is compatible with all MicroStep CNC machines and allows a smooth transition from the old system to the new MicroStep overall concept. In order to maintain a clean workplace, the smoke gases which are produced when cutting with plasma have to be exhausted. MicroStep and its partner Donaldson upgraded the existing filter unit and installed a second one with a filtration performance of 16.000 m³/h.

The whole concept is perfected by the first-class service of MicroStep Europe, which supports not only Lürssen with words and deeds. Lürssen as one of the leading docks worldwide has therefore a strong and reliable partner by its side.

We wish Lürssen good luck for the future and are looking forward to continuing the good team work!
